Punching Power
February 17
“Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”
John 5:19
What was the key to Jesus’ spiritual punching power? Why did every punch he threw knock out spiritual heavyweights standing in front of him? The answer…his Father was supplying the power! While Jesus was inside the cage of life, he never landed a punch utilizing his own power. His punching power came straight from the Father.
Too many fighters are tying to knock out problems utilizing their own punching power. If Jesus did not try to fight by his own power, why should we?
The key to the power behind Jesus’ spiritual punches was his close relationship with the Father. His thoughts reflected his intimate relationship with the heavenly trainer. Jesus said, “Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves” (John 14:11).
Jesus took his instructions from God. It was his habit during training camp to worship (Luke 4:16). It was his practice to hit the treadmill of Scripture (Luke 4:4). Luke says Jesus “often slipped away to be alone so he could pray” (Luke 5:16). His times of prayer guided him. The power of Jesus’ punches in the spirit came from an unseen hand.
Remember it is called a fight for a reason. However, we fight from victory, not for victory. Keep Fighting!
